Kimball Productions got a SLAP
Published on April 28, 2011 in Advice
“Both my son and I are military men who are accustomed to solid, detailed plans of action. But when it came to running our production company, those kinds of plans didn’t exactly translate.
Then along came Carissa Reiniger and her Silver Lining Action Plan. It was like a cold ‘slap‘ in our collective business ‘face’ and exactly what we needed to take our company to the next level. Even during the roughest economic seas we’ve sailed in years, we survived because we had a great plan.
Make a plan, execute the plan and stick to the plan and the next slap you’ll hear is the sound of cold ‘cash on the dash. I got a SLAP.”

Top down, bottom up!
Published on April 27, 2011 in Advice
When you are thinking about your business planning you must always plan from the top down and execute from the bottom up. What I mean by this is that you have to set your big goals first and then plan your one-year goal, then your quarterly goal, and then your monthly objectives. You don’t know what to do with your time from month-to-month if you do not have a goal that you are moving towards.
On the execution side, though, you have to chop away at all of the work day-by-day, month-by-month, quarter-by-quarter, and year-by-year. If you are not managing your tangible to-dos every single day and holding yourself accountable to your goals, you will never get to your ultimate goal.

New TV Series for Small Businesses could feature you
Published on April 21, 2011 in Advice
Silver Lining Limited has received word that Sundance Channel’s new TV show is seeking companies that are challenged by the recession for a series that focuses on “rebuilding through innovation and American grit.”
The show is looking for established mid-sized enterprises (with approximately 30 to 200 employees) that are interested in strategic support to help them innovate, expand, and thrive in these difficult economic times. Criteria for selection will be rigorous, though special consideration will be given to inspirational stories.
Each of the six companies ultimately selected will have its own television episode dedicated to showcasing its business and how it’s coping with today’s economic challenges.
The deadline for completed applications is May 6, 2011 (with early applications strongly encouraged). The vetting and selection process may continue through June 1. There will be approximately 7 days of shooting, over a three-month period, for each company.
Interested CEOs and business owners can apply online at http://www.AmericanBusinessShow.com. Good luck!

Admit your weaknesses
Published on April 19, 2011 in Advice
The 100 entrepreneurs interviewed during the creation of my book, Inspiring Entrepreneurs: How to Build Your Business to its First Million, all knew that in order to be successful, they had to understand themselves more than anyone else.
Being a leader does not mean being perfect or pretending to be perfect.
Being a true leader means knowing yourself well enough to know what you do and do not know. It means being secure enough and confident enough to admit your weaknesses and get support in those areas. If these people had not recognized this truth and acted on it on a regular basis, they would not be where they are today.
